The tug of war for iPhone between its manufacturer and users who wants to have the liberty to choose their own network provider has proven to be a competition amongst who offers the best and who wants the best. Apple and AT&T planned into cornering the market, the former by producing the hi-tech phones and latter providing the network service respectively.
However, along the way they met criticisms of monopolizing the market, thus, people created their own way to subdue this plan. And on the process, jailbreaking and unlocking became two important processes for iPhone users. To challenge this new norm, Apple has diverted its attention into having their version of unlocked iPhone.
The iPhone 4 model has 2 color options – Black and White, and a storage capacity of 8GB. And even while Apple already released an unlocked version, they still retained the marketing of iPhone 4 that comes with a wireless service plan. This time, they already have the big four: AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile, although T-Mobile is the only carrier among the four that offers an unlocked and contract-free version from the start of the purchase.
One can get an iPhone 4 for free, but with a wireless service plan offered by AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. With AT&T, the plan starts from as low as $85/month with 1GB data allocation to as much as $530/month with 50GB data allocation, all of which includes unlimited call, and SMS & MMS features. With Sprint, wireless plan starts with $79.99/month to as high as $109.99/month that includes unlimited SMS & MMS, and unlimited data allocation with up to 300MB data for domestic roaming.
Opting for Verizon, you can get a service plan for as low as $80/month with 300MB data allocation to a maximum of $375/month with 50GB data allocation, including unlimited call, and SMS & MMS.
Compare these with the price offered by T-Mobile, where you can purchase the phone for $450: the same price if you opted to purchase an unlocked SIM-free phone. The wireless service plan starts at $50/month with 500MB of high speed data connection, up to $70/month with unlimited 4G data, all of which includes unlimited call, and SMS & MMS.
By using iPhone 4 on either Sprint or Verizon network, it will run on a CDMA technology; on the other hand, AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM network. Either way, Apple guarantees that the same exciting features will work on the iPhone regardless of which wireless carrier are used.
Apple also guarantees that the iPhone 4 purchased from them includes warranty covering 90 days of technical support by telephone for free and a one-year warranty. There is also an option to extend technical support coverage.
With AppleCare+, iPhone 4 owners can have extended technical support by phone. They are also entitled to two year repair coverage from the original date of purchase that includes up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage. As additional information, AppleCare+ can only be added during the process of purchase and can no longer be added after a purchase has been done.
